www.ehow.com/how_12075252_germinate-yellow-wonder-strawberry-seeds.htmlYellow Wonder strawberries are a cultivar of Fragaria vesca, or alpine strawberries. Native to the Alps, these strawberries thrive in U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zones 3 to 10. Yellow Wonder strawberries are naturally pale yellow, soft and very sweet. The plants grow in low mounds without runners. Unlike their larger cousins, the American strawberry varieties, alpine strawberries grow true from seed.
Things You Will Need
• Sterile seed starting mix
• Tweezers
• Seed flat
Instructions
o 1
Place the Yellow Wonder strawberry seeds in a resealable bag, then on a shelf in the freezer for 30 days. Alpine strawberries are native to cold climates and require a period of cold to sprout properly.
o 2
Prepare a seed flat with sterile seed sprouting mix. Moisten the mix thoroughly and place the flat in a warm, brightly lit location.
o 3
Insert one Yellow Wonder seed per cell in the seed tray. Use fine-pointed tweezers to place the tiny seeds. Place them on the surface of the seed sprouting mix. Barely cover them with sand and mist with water.
o 4
Cover the seed tray with plastic wrap to hold the moisture in. If the seeds dry out, they will not sprout.
o 5
Place the seed tray on a heating pad or mat covered with plastic and plugged into a GFCI-protected outlet if your seed-sprouting area is cold. Alpine strawberries sprout best at 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Use grow lights positioned 2 to 4 inches above the seed flat if you don't have a bright window. The seeds require 12 to 14 hours a day of bright light to sprout.
o 6
Open the plastic wrap daily to check the seeds. Mist if the surface of the planting mix appears dry. Alpine strawberry seeds germinate at an uneven rate, taking up to a month to sprout. Remove the plastic after the seeds germinate to avoid fungal infections.
o 7
Transplant the seedlings to flower pots or the garden when the Yellow Wonder strawberries have two to four sets of leaves. The young plants are cold sensitive; harden off and transplant after all chance of frost is past.
Tips & Warnings
• If you harvested seeds from your own plants, clearly label and date the resealable bag with a permanent marker before placing in the freezer.
• Extra seeds may be saved up to a year in the freezer.
• Purchase seeds from a reputable vendor. Alpine strawberry seeds have a germination rate ranging from zero to 60 percent even when planted by experts. Check the customer comments before purchasing seeds from an unfamiliar source.
• Do not allow the seed starting flats to become soggy.
• Do not allow the planting mixture to dry out.
Am pus seminte in 2 recipiente, dar aici voi prezenta doar evolutia semintelor puse mai devreme.
Sunt tare lenese si cresc incet :)).
